The following roubleshooting guide, however, is for those of you applying veneer with contact cement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"editeur\" ><table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Problems<\/td>\n<td>Causes<\/td>\n<td>Possible solutions<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>1. Edge lifting<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Insufficient adhesive<\/li>\n<li>Combining too soon (trapped solvent)<\/li>\n<li>Insufficient veneer or substrate compression<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply more adhesive to veneer and substrate. (Both should be covered.)<\/li>\n<li>Increase drying time.<\/li>\n<li>Increase pressure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2. Bubbles in the veneer<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Trapped solvent (solvent odor noted)<\/li>\n<li>Edges bonded first<\/li>\n<li>Irregular adhesive coverage<\/li>\n<li>Irregular compression<\/li>\n<li>Ineffective glue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase drying time.<\/li>\n<li>Apply pressure from center outward.<\/li>\n<li>Check application method and equipment. (Spraying is better than rolling; rolling is better than brushing.)<\/li>\n<li>Check compression procedures.<\/li>\n<li>Use glue with more solids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>3. Failure with adhesive on both substrates<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Insufficient compression<\/li>\n<li>Insufficient adhesive<\/li>\n<li>Adhesive surface contaminated<\/li>\n<li>Wrong substrate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Go over surface with iron at about 200-225 degrees.<\/li>\n<li>Keep work area clean.<\/li>\n<li>MDF is better than industrial particle board. Particle board is better than plywood.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t apply veneer over laminate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4. Weak or no contact bond<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Exceeded contact bond life<\/li>\n<li>Trapped solvent<\/li>\n<li>moisture Contamination of adhesive surface<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Check to see if glue is old or frozen.<\/li>\n<li>Increase drying time.<\/li>\n<li>Check spray equipment for water in air line and increase drying temperature during high humidity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>5.
